On 17 June 1920, members of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Listowel police station refused to obey the commanding officer's orders that they be relocated to police outposts outside of the town. It is a great base for exploring the beautiful County Kerry and also located near the Tarbert Ferry port – a gateway to County Clare and Galway. The nearest railway station is Tralee.
